I was interested to rent a house that Joseph Macord, a realtor at Alpine Lakes Real Estate was managing for the property owner. One of the first questions I asked Mr. Macord was "does the lease have a renewal clause"? Mr. Macord mumbled an answer so I explained why I needed a renewal clause. I told him I didn't have one on my current lease and this was the reason I was having to move! I had screwed-up not making sure I had one and my current landlord wanted his condo back to do some skiing. While sitting with Mr. Macord I asked for a copy of the lease agreement regarding the house I was interested-in. I wanted to look the lease over since I had screwed-up before regarding my current lease! However Mr. Macord would not give me a copy nor offered to show it to me. I later understood this was common policy. What got me, however was Mr. Macord happily provided a blank copy of a lease that had a renewal clause on it. I was distracted by the lease thinking I'd have a renewal clause on mine! I thought sure I'd be all set so two days later I quickly looked-over and signed the new lease with Mr. Macord. An hour or so later I met the man that Mr. Macord recommended for snow plowing! I paid him $460 in cash for the winter season thinking he must be a good guy? However, later that night after signing the new lease and meeting the snow plow guy that was recommended I shockingly discovered the new lease I had signed did not have a renewal clause on it! I became upset and stressed because I made it clear to Mr. Macord that I needed one! Earlier that day I also paid for a new PO box as well as suggested by Mr. Macord! He wanted the address to put on the new lease! Being upset after all this I called the property owner the next morning instead of calling Mr. Macord. I wanted nothing more to do with the man! The property owner understood the situation and agreed to dissolve the lease. She said she couldn't provide a renewal clause because she was planning to move into the house after a year. Why couldn't Mr. Macord tell me this, the A-HOLE! When the property owner and I finished on the phone she contacted Mr. Macord right away to tell him the lease had been dissolved. She also told him I needed my money back regarding the snow plowing since he had recommended the man to me! What happened after was almost as bad. Mr. Macord's snow plow guy called me a handful of times promising to return my money yet never did. His first excuse - a family emergency. After several other excuses I gave up. I was emotionally unglued from all the stress. I forfeited the money to save my sanity leaving a message for the guy telling him to never contact me again! The final icing on the cake was Mr. Macord or someone at Alpine Lakes Realty attempted to cash my security deposit check! This happened three days after Mr. Macord was notified that the lease had been dissolved. Luckily, I had put a stop payment on the check. BEWARE OF Joseph Macord! He and some of his business associates are NOT GOOD PEOPLE!
